How to Edit a Screen Recording with AI

Published 1 November 2026

Upload a video you already have, and an AI model watches it and proposes the edit. You stay in charge: every suggestion is yours to accept or throw away.

What the AI does

Cool Easy Cut can take a video from a file, or a recording of a whole screen or window, and ask a vision model to draft the edit. A Full pass samples still frames (28 by default, adjustable) and asks for cuts, annotations, panels and camera moves in a single request. Uploaded videos have no click log, so for them the AI is how the first draft gets made.

Step by step

  1. Get the video in. Upload a file, or record a screen or window.
  2. Connect a model, once. Paste a key from OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI or Google, or point it at a model running on your own computer. You pay your provider directly, usually pennies per video.
  3. Run a Full pass. Optionally leave a note such as "be harder on dead air" or "explain every button we click".
  4. Review. Accept suggestions one by one, accept all and trim afterwards, or discard the lot. A switch lets you compare your edit alone, your edit with the suggestions on top, or the suggestions on a bare take.
  5. Fix what it got wrong. Re-ask for just cuts, annotations, panels or camera, run a second pass to refine, or edit by hand. Accepted suggestions are ordinary items.

Suggestions, never silent changes

The model cannot change your edit on its own. Nothing is applied until you accept it, and the original recording is never touched, so you can undo any step.

What you should know about privacy

To make suggestions, the model has to see your video. With a cloud model, the sampled frames are sent to the provider you chose, with your own key. If that is not acceptable for a recording, choose a local model, in which case frames never leave your machine. Cool Easy Cut does not receive your key or your frames.

Recording a browser tab does not need AI at all, because the click log drafts the edit. More on privacy.
