How to Make a Software Tutorial Video

Published 1 November 2026

A good software tutorial shows one task, clearly, from start to finish. Here is the sequence that gets you to a finished video with the least rework.

1. Decide on one task

Pick a single outcome, such as "export a report" or "invite a teammate", and write the steps in a line or two. Short, single-purpose videos are easier to follow and easier to update when the software changes.

2. Record at high quality

Record big, export small: the recording is an intermediate file, so leave the quality high and let the export make the version you share. Choosing a browser tab gives the editor a click log to work from. For a desktop app or an existing file, upload it and let AI draft the edit.

3. Let the draft do the first edit

For a tab recording, Initial Auto Edit adds labels at each click, marks dead air for removal and drafts camera moves, with no AI needed. For anything else, an AI pass suggests cuts, annotations, panels and camera moves. Either way, press Preview and watch it as your viewer will. What auto zoom does.

4. Add your own touches

5. Write it up

The same AI connection can draft a written tutorial, an article, a video description with chapters, or a social post from the finished video. The text is yours to edit.

6. Export

Export renders to an MP4 in your browser. It runs in real time, so a three-minute video takes three minutes, and it needs Chrome 130 or later. Nothing is uploaded for rendering.
